Deanna's Story

Interior designer Deanna Lillemoe seated in her shop Evelyn's Emporium, Saint Paul MN

Deanna's love for art and interior design began at fifteen, when she purchased her first subscription to Renovation Style magazine — a collection she still has today. She went on to study Studio Art and French at St. Olaf College, spending a January Term in New York City visiting artists, galleries, and museums, and a semester in France studying art history.

Fresh out of college, Deanna worked at Marshall Field's in downtown Minneapolis, helping engaged couples build their bridal registries. It was a favorite job — setting up tablescapes and coordinating china, crystal, silver, and linens based on each couple's taste. She later worked for Nash Frame Design and Marshall Field's Furniture Store before opening her own design firm in 2003.

For the first fifteen years of her practice, Deanna focused on kitchen and bath remodels, working as both designer and general contractor. Her focus has since shifted to furniture layout, style selection, wallpaper, and drapery — the layers that give a room its personality.
